Mayor of London failing on electric promises

As part of the London Assembly Environment Committee's investigation into electric vehicles, Green Party Assembly Member, Darren Johnson, took part in site visits to the North East of England and to Paris to look at schemes there.

The Committee's report found that the Mayor faces a formidable challenge to achieve his targets:
  • There are 2,313 electric vehicles currently in London, which is only two percent of the Mayor's goal of 100,000;
  • There are around 400 charge points in the capital compared to his recent target of 1,300 by 2013 and the original target of 25,000 by 2015; and
  • There are fewer than 50 electric vehicles in the Greater London Authority fleet compared to the Mayor's aim of 1,000 by 2015.
