Talking to Tesco

After two meetings with Tesco officials about their store in England's Lane, and after talking to about 70 residents face to face, via door intercoms or by email, here's what I believe we've agreed:

- No Tesco truck deliveries between 08:00 and 20:00 on weekdays.
- One Tesco truck delivery between 07:15 and 08:00 on weekdays with drivers not allowed to use the reversing alarm and a commitment to look at introducing new trucks in 2007 with a quieter backlift.
- A second delivery slot for Tesco trucks on week days between 20:00 and 21:30.
- No early deliveries at weekends although we haven't yet agreed on the definition of "early".
- Tesco trucks used to deliver to the England's Lane store to be restricted to 10.3m in length.
- Suppliers to deliver between 09:30-11:30 and 14:00-15:30 only although I'm still waiting for an estimate of how many small trucks and vans this would amount to.
- New storage facilities in the store to keep rubbish off the pavement and improve turnaround times for deliveries.
- Turnaround times to be reduced to 30 mins or less although this will take time to achieve.

Thanks to all those I spoke to for their feedback. Now let's see if we can make it work and if it makes a difference to the quality of life in England's Lane.

Perhaps our next campaign should be to stop businesses leaving rubbish all over the street in the evenings (see photo below)!
