"Age Of Stupid" Peoples' Premiere breaks record
It was great to see so many of you at the opening of this year's must-see climate change film "The Age Of Stupid" at the Finchley Road VUE last night. As I understand it we made it into the Guinness Book of Records as part of the biggest live film premiere ever. We were one of dozens of Peoples' Premieres going on in cinemas all over the country. All of them were plugged in live to the main event in Leicester Square ((that's Vivienne Westwood and her bike on the live feed behind me) where leading actor Pete Postlethwaite made the Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband squirm.
“The Age Of Stupid" stars Pete Postlethwaite (below) as a man living alone in the devastated future world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: "Why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?" You can catch the trailer here: www.ageofstupid.net/video.
It's on again at the Finchley Rd VUE on Sun 22 March at 6pm. It's also on for an entire week at the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn starting Fri 20 March. And then at the Belsize Park Everyman at 2pm on 29, 31 March and 2 April. There will be a special Transition Belsize event at the 29 March screening at the Everyman so I hope to see as many of you as possible there.
One last thing - the director, Franny Armstrong, is from Camden. I think we should be really proud that such an important film has emerged from our community. Now we have to take film's message - that we need action NOW - to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December which is probably our last chance to get an international agreement on reducing emissions before it's too late.
