Increasing weather violence














With high winds again battering large parts of Britain, and claiming at least one life, we would do well to keep in mind why this is happening. Global warming is making weather patterns more violent.


According to a new study by British scientists, warmer waters in the north Atlantic have made hurricanes stronger and more frequent in the past decade. The finding has raised fears that global warming could unleash more devastating storms in the region, if sea temperatures continue to increase. A rise in surface water temperatures of 0.27C between 1996 and 2005 was responsible for 40% of the increase in Atlantic hurricane activity, researchers at University College London's Hazard Research Centre found.
